Welcome to Montana's Russell Country

Archaeo Days

Each Tuesday and Friday starting April 13th, schools will have an opportunity to send field trips to First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park, formerly UIm Pishkun State Park to learn about archaeology, the buffalo jump and Northern Plains Indian culture. The event is geared towards 4th and 5th grade students. Teachers at the various schools will be sent notices in early March so they can begin to plan to bring their classes to First Peoples Buffalo Jump. Each day will begin at 10:00am and end at 2:00pm.

Park employees and volunteers will provide a series of five educational stations that school groups will rotate through. A lunch period will be part of the schedule and the kids should bring a sack lunch. Provided the weather is good, some of the educational stations will be outside and lunch will be at the picnic tables on the patio. In the event of inclement weather, the stations will be moved entirely inside the First Peoples Buffalo Jump visitor center.

Home school groups are welcome as well. Home school groups can contact Robert Thomson at (406) 866-2211 or rthomson@mt.gov to inform him of their interest and he will see that they are contacted in March.
